Synopsis: Introduction to the characteristics of computer communications, applications and presentation software. Networks Hardware, software and topologies. Communications transmission styles and protocols. Uses Electronic mail; the internet; bulletin boards and file transfers. Scripting languages and the design and maintenance of internet sites. Presentation Hypermedia, multimedia and presentation software.
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should understand the basic concepts and structures of networks; understand the concept of electronic mail systems; have gained practical experience of electronic mail systems; have gained practical experience in presentation software applications; understand a conceptual model of the internet, hypermedia and multimedia; have gained practical experience in script programming and WEB authoring.
Assessment: Practical exercises: 40% + Examination: 60%
