Peninsula First semester 2006 (Day)
Synopsis: Computer awareness The development of a conceptual model of a computer system; hardware, software and their interrelationships. The processor: peripheral devices: types and capabilities. Windows environments. File management Storage and maintenance. Software Operating systems; system utilities; user applications including word-processing, databases, presentation software, spreadsheets , and World Wide Web.
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit students should be able to demonstrate competence in the use of word processor, spreadsheet, database and presentation software in a school-based or early childhood context; understand school/early childhood use of the World Wide Web; understand file management and basic operation of a personal computer running a Windows operating system; be able to send and receive email.
Assessment: Review of school site on Internet (1500 words): 20% + Folio: 40% + Examination: 40% (2 hours)
