Synopsis: Principles of variable speed control for AC motors; variable voltage frequency operation; open and closed loop speed control; field weakening and DC bus voltage compensation; generalised d-q axis model of an AC motor; principles of field orientated and instantaneous torque control. Brushless DC motor systems. Stepper motor and reluctance motor control.
Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 70% + Laboratory and assignment work: 30%
