Synopsis: The subject examines and develops the theoretical and empirical relationships between the structure of industries, the behaviour of enterprises within those industries, and market performance. Microeconomic concepts such as profits, efficiency, barriers to entry, concentration, sales promotion and product differentiation, vertical and horizontal integration are used to study Australian industry. Competition policy and the role of the National Competition Council (NCC) and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) will also be covered.

Assessment: Written (3000-word assignment): 50% + Examination (2 hours): 50%
