Caulfield First semester 2006 (Day)
Synopsis: An introduction to UNIX systems for students with knowledge of C programming but who have not worked in a UNIX environment. The structure of the operating system and variant forms. Shells, utilities and C programming tools. Introduction to programming shell scripts. The interface between the UNIX system and C programs in the form of system calls.
Assessment: Examination: 40% + Practical work: 40% + Tutorial work: 20%
Contact Hours: 3 hours per week
Prerequisites: CSE1203 or equivalent
Prohibitions: CFR3111, CSE2208, CSE2391, CSE3391, SFT2208, SFT3208 or equivalent
