Synopsis: The unit examines and discusses the following topics: the concept of the system and its application to management of organisational information; the process of information systems development; the roles played and skills needed by professionals in that process; the techniques used by systems analysts, emphasising the concept of abstraction and its application in process modelling as DFDs; techniques of information elicitation for problem appreciation and analysis; types of information systems and their application to business problems; systems analysis as a social process; the need for high-level interpersonal communication skills, and knowledge of presentation techniques.
Assessment: Examination: 60% + Assignments: 40%
