Synopsis: This unit introduces students to the theory and practice of research in Business Systems. Topics covered include philosophical foundations of research; scientific method; locating and critically reviewing and synthesising relevant literature; formulating research questions; research design including experiments, simulations, surveys and case studies; collecting and analysing qualitative and quantitative data; writing-up and communicating research results; and ethics in research.
Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 60%. Assignments: 40%. Students must pass the examination in order to pass the unit
Contact Hours: One 2-hour lecture and one 1-hour laboratory per week
Prerequisites: Entry to the Master of Business Systems or equivalent Masters program.
