Synopsis: This unit examines the methods and protocols of bioinformatics, genomes, DNA and protein sequence analyses. Topics covered include methods of information retrieval from various internet databases; bioinformatics softwares, data entry of bioinformatics information, computer modelling of macromolecules, and functional genomics.
Objectives: To understand information content and its flow in the biological systems, and the processes related to the flow; to learn to use bioinformatics software and computer models; to learn to analyse and interpret simple bioinformation data sets; to understand theoretical basis of mining bioinformation.
Assessment: Practical reports 35%,+ Mid-semester Test 15%,+ Final Examination 50%
Contact Hours: 2 hours of lectures, 2 hours practical and 1 hour tutorial per week
Prerequisites: BTH2746 or GEN2041
