Synopsis: The seminar has two key purposes: (1) to examine a series of topics in Asian Studies of interest to the students and lectures and (2) to develop the research, writing and oral presentation skills of the students. To meet these goals, students will choose their literature review and research paper topics in consultation with the coordinator. They will also help choose the readings for the seminar discussions of their topics. At the conclusion of the seminar, students should have knowledge of several important topics in Asian Studies as well as enhanced abilities to conduct research at honours level.
Assessment: Literature Review (3500 words): 35% + Research Paper (5500 words): 65%
Contact Hours: 3 hours (1 x 3 hour seminar) per week
Prerequisites: Enrolment in one of the honours programs in Asian Studies (normally Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese or Korean)
