South Africa First semester 2006 (Day)
Synopsis: Time value of money, Cost of capital, Capital investment, Financing, Analysis and interpretation of financial statements, Valuation of business enterprises and securities, Reorganisations, Reconstructions, Mergers, Conversions, and Liquidations.
Objectives: On completion of this subject students will have: + Developed an understanding of the time value of money. + Developed an understanding of the cost of capital. + Developed an understanding of accounting of capital investments. + Developed and understanding of accounting for earnings per share. + Developed an understanding of financing. + Developed an understanding of the valuation of business enterprises and securities. + Developed an understanding of how transactions are recorded in respect of changes in equity and shareholdings. + Developed an understanding of how to advise clients as to the most advantageous way to overcome financial problems whether by means of reorganisation, reconstruction, merger, conversion or liquidation. + Developed an understanding of how to convert one form of business enterprise into another form of business enterprise.
Assessment: Assignment (up to 3000 words): 15% + Mid-semester test 15% + Examination (3 hours): 70%
Contact Hours: One 2-hour lecture and one 1-hour tutorial
Prerequisites: AFW2042
