Synopsis: Family and business cultures and their relationship - the challenge of 'institutional overlap'; moving from entrepreneurship to a professionally managed firm by putting in place effective management and control systems; the challenges and opportunities associated with developing and managing growth within the business. Family considerations and their influence on business strategy and planning; the need to integrate both the family system and business system into the planning process. Maintaining family harmony; communication and conflict resolution; ownership and management succession; principles of consulting with family businesses.
Assessment: Assignment (1500 words): 10% + Group case study (4000 words): 20% + Group presentation: 10% + Examination: 60%
