Course description

This course aims to produce highly trained and proficient graduates who are well qualified to apply their psychological training to work in a business environment. The content of the program will provide students with excellent training for further postgraduate study in psychology or business.

Course structure

Areas of study

The degree provides a major specialisation in psychology and either management or marketing.

Students have the option of one open elective in the degree. All other studies are in the disciplines of psychology, management or marketing.

Course requirements

The degree requirements are:

(a) Completion of six compulsory units (36 points)

  • MGF1010 Managing people and organisations
  • MKF1120 Marketing theory and practice
  • MKF2111 Buyer behaviour
  • PMM1010 Introductory business law and accounting for non-business students
  • PMM2020 Economic and statistical decision making
  • PMM3020 Psychology, management and marketing

(b) Completion of seven units (42 points) of your choice which may complete a major specialisation in either management or marketing:

(i) One management unit (6 points).

(ii) Two second-year-level management/marketing units (12 points).

(iii) A further four management/marketing units (24 points), of which at least two must be third-year units.

(c) Completion of a 10-unit (60 points) major sequence in psychology:

  • PSY1011 Psychology 1A
  • PSY1022 Psychology 1B
  • PSY2031 Developmental and biological psychology
  • PSY2042 Cognitive and social psychology
  • PSY2051 Research design and analysis
  • PSY2112 Organisational psychology
  • PSY3041 Psychological testing, theories of ability and ethics
  • PSY3051 Perception and personality
  • PSY3032 Abnormal psychology
  • PSY3062 Research methods and theory

(d) A total of 24 units (144 points) over a maximum of 10 years of study.

(e) A maximum of 10 first-year-level units (60 points).

(f) A minimum of seven third-year-level units (42 points), of which at least three units (18 points) must be from the Faculty of Business and Economics.

(g) An option to include a maximum of one unit (6 points) in disciplines taught by other Monash faculties or from units offered on campuses other than the campus delivering this program.

  • Australian Marketing Institute
