Course description

Students in this course develop knowledge of the purpose and methods of planning, its traditions, current philosophies, principles, practice and emerging issues. The focus is on the study of natural and cultural environment, principles of ecologically sustainable development, methods of evaluating, improving, building and managing the environments, and the political, legal and institutional contexts of planning including the influence of native title on land tenure. Students also receive a grounding in the relevant social, economic and environmental principles involved in regional and urban planning.

Course requirements

Students must complete the following:

(a) A regional and urban planning major (54 points).

(b) A minor (or a second major) in at least one of communications, geography or politics (24 or 48 points).

(c) A total of 144 points.

(d) 96 points of arts.

(e) A maximum of 60 points at first-year level.

(f) A minimum of 36 points at a third-year level.

Note that no more than 10 units (60 points) are to be completed at a first-year level.

Students have a maximum of eight years to complete this course.
