Course description

This is a one-year, full-time degree program of education in the discipline and practice of design or design research. It provides students with the opportunity to intensively study an area of specialisation of their own choice.

Students who complete the honours degree of the Bachelor of Design will, in addition to having met the objectives of the pass degree, have acquired:

the capability to continue to contemporary discourse on design; and
understanding of research concepts, strategies and methods and the skills to apply them in the fields of design.

Course structure

(a) Design studio projects (30 points)

(b) Either the preparation for higher degree strand (12 points):

Research methods in art and design, and
Research seminar in art and design

or the professional practice strand (12 points):

Design research methods and seminar, and
Professional practice and business planning for design

(d) Occupational health and safety (0 points), if no previously passed or exempted

Fourth year (48 points)

First semester

DGN4001 Major project (design) part 1 (12 points)
OHS1000 Introduction to art and design health and safety (0 points) -- if required
Either TAD4503 Research methods in art and design (6 points),
or TAD4523 Design research methods and seminar (6 points)
Elective (6 points)

Second semester

DGN4002 Major project (design) part 2 (18 points)
Either TAD4504 Research seminar in art and design (6 points),
or PPR4102 Professional practice and business planning for design (6 points)
