Master of Radiographic Practice

Course description

This course is designed for radiographers wishing to engage in a structured academic pathway leading to the recognition of the level of advanced practitioner status. The course will facilitate high levels of supervisory, problem-solving, leadership and research skills in relation to either computed tomography (CT) or general radiography, in respect to the management of digital images, patient management and advocacy and image interpretation, for example in the rural and remote or accident and emergency setting.

Entry requirements

Applicants must be graduates of a four-year degree program in radiography and medical imaging or a three-year degree program in radiography with completion of an honours year. At least one year post-qualification clinical experience is required. Applicants must also have attained their Statement of Accreditation from the Australian Institute of Radiography or equivalent professional qualification. Those applicants with other radiography qualifications will be assessed by the department individually.

Prior to admission to the radiographic and CT units, applicants must provide evidence verifying that they are engaged in related clinical practice.

Successful graduates from the Graduate Diploma in Advanced Radiographic Practice may also apply.

Course structure

The masters program is structured to enable radiographers to combine study with full-time or part-time clinical practice. Students must complete 72 points comprised of the following units:

Computed tomography (CT) stream

  • MRP4003 Clinical and cross sectional imaging anatomy
Semester 2
  • MRP4010 Contemporary professional practice
  • MRP4011 CT clinical methods
Semester 3
  • MRP4012 Advanced pathology for radiographic practice
Semester 4
  • MRP4014 Multislice CT and clinical decision-making 1
Semester 5
  • MFM2006R Introduction to research methods
Semester 6

Select one from:

  • MRP5010 Clinical research project
  • MRP5012 Multislice CT and clinical decision-making 2

General radiography stream

Semester 1
  • MRP4001 Digital imaging in radiographic practice

Assessment

Assessment includes written examinations, theoretical essays, oral examinations, clinical case studies and clinical workbook.
