Units indexed by faculty Master of Emergency Health (MICA Paramedic)Course code: 3861 + Course abbreviation: MEmergHlth(MICA) + Total credit points required: 72 + 4 semesters part-time Study mode and course locationOff-campus (Peninsula) Course descriptionThe course is designed to prepare MICA paramedics for clinical leadership positions in the emergency health services field, for example as a clinical support officer in an ambulance service or an academic in an educational facility. Entry requirementsApplicants are required to have completed a Graduate Diploma of Emergency Health (MICA Paramedic) or equivalent. In addition, applicants will be required to be currently employed in a clinically related capacity at the MICA paramedic level by an ambulance service or emergency health service or related agency. Other intensive care paramedics from interstate with an equivalent qualification may also apply for entry. Such applicants will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and may be required to undertake preliminary studies to prepare themselves for enrolment in the masters-level units. Course structureThe course comprises 72 points, made up of 48 points for completion of the Graduate Diploma of Emergency Health (MICA Paramedic) (or an approved equivalent) and an additional 24 points consisting of one core unit and three coursework electives or one core unit and one elective plus a clinical project. Elective units
Prior to enrolment in MEH5050, students will be required to discuss their topic with the course coordinator to identify their choice of electives. Generally, students undertaking a project related to clinical improvement will be required to enrol in MEH5020; students undertaking a project related to paramedic education will be required to enrol in MEH5030; and students undertaking a project with a clinical leadership focus will be required to enrol in MEH5040. AssessmentAssessment for this course will be a mixture of written assignments, literature review, online discussion participation and a presentation/clinical project.
