Course description

This course, offered by the School of Nursing and Midwifery, is designed to respond to the need within industry for specialist nurses who are able to care for the ill child and family. An extensive and diverse range of clinical experience is offered, incorporating children of varying age, with a wide range of health care needs and levels of acuity, within the hospital and the community. Course units are scheduled in a manner that enables students to undertake part-time employment.

Entry requirements

Applicants would normally have a degree in nursing or a related discipline; registration with the Nurses Board of Victoria (Division 1 or eligible for registration); and at least one year of professional clinical experience. Special entry may be available.

Course structure

Students are required to undertake a core unit, study modules offered by industry partners and elective units.

Core unit

  • NUR6405 Explorations in child and family nursing
  • Elective units

A further 24 points of elective units may be selected from units within other postgraduate nursing courses and are to be negotiated with the course coordinator.

Assessment

Assessment includes clinical performance, case studies, written assignments, completion of learning packages and examinations.
