Units indexed by faculty Graduate Diploma in ManagementCourse code: 0319 + Course abbreviation: GradDipMgt + Total credit points required: 48 + 2 semesters full-time, 4 semesters part-time Study mode and course locationOn-campus (Caulfield) Course descriptionThis course has been especially designed to provide business personnel with an in-depth understanding of current management theory and practices, and to develop the skills and abilities required to lead and manage organisations in unpredictable and rapidly changing environments. A major feature of the program is the application of theoretical concepts and models to organisational realities. At one level, the course focuses on the strategic organisational issues of complexity, change, learning and strategy to enable active adaptation in dynamic environments. On another level, it adopts a micro perspective and explores the importance of learning and self-management, specific managerial competencies, leadership and stakeholder relationships. There is particular emphasis on the manager as change facilitator. Students are encouraged to recognise the importance of effective change management and to demonstrate an understanding of various change models and frameworks, their relevant foundations, strengths and weaknesses, and to apply these to real-life situations. Course structure(a) Students must complete five core units (30 points):
(b) Students must complete three elective units (18 points) from graduate-level units taught by the Department of Management. In place of two electives taught by the Department of Management, students may enrol in units taught outside the department. Elective selection must meet overall course objectives and receive program manager approval. Students who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma in Management may apply for admission into the Master of Management and would be eligible for advanced standing for eight units.
