Course description

The course is designed to meet the needs of professionals in communications and related sectors. It provides a unique focus on convergent knowledge and the understanding and integration of multiple communication practices. The curriculum includes policy, organisational, technical, persuasive, visual, aesthetic, written, economic, political, ethical, planning, systems, and logistical facets of communications.

Entry requirements

A bachelors degree with at least a credit average in the final year; or a bachelors pass degree with demonstrable professional experience (a minimum of two years) at management level (eg program coordinator, team leader) in a relevant area (these applicants will need to supply a CV, a 1000-word statement and the names of two professional referees).

Those with significant relevant experience without a graduate qualification may apply for entry into the Faculty Certificate of Communications.

Course structure

Students must complete a maximum of 48 points at level 4.

Level 4 units

Students must complete the following:

  • COM4201 Communication organisations and technologies
  • COM4202 Communication policy and management
  • COM4203 Communication systems and networks
  • COM4204 Communication economies and society

Minimum pass grade

To graduate with a Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate in Communications, students must gain a minimum credit average overall.

Articulation

Upon successful completion with a credit average, they may apply for entry into the Graduate Diploma of Communications. On completion of the Graduate Diploma with a credit average, students may apply for entry to the Master of Communications.

Exit point

After successful completion of 24 points, students may apply to exit the program with a Graduate Certificate in Communications.
