Synopsis: This Unit will provide students with a clinical risk management framework for managing and preventing wounds. This Unit will explore the evidential basis for prevention strategies for wounds such as skin tears, leg ulcer and pressure ulcers. Students will not only explore client issues associated with prevention but also explore the local environment and organisational factors that influence prevention in both the hospital and community setting

Objectives: At the completion of this unit students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate an understanding of clinical risk management in relation to wound prevention; 2. Identify and discuss the incidence and prevalence of wounds in the hospital and community setting; 3. Discuss the prevention strategies and evidential basis supporting wound prevention 4. Utilise a clinical risk management approach to manage: a. skin tears, b. leg ulcers, c. diabetic foot ulcers, d. pressure ulcers; 5. Identify client, local and organisational barriers to wound prevention. 6. Determine appropriate measures for monitoring effectiveness of wound prevention strategies for the individual and the health care service.

Assessment: Two minor assignments (1000 words each) (30%), One Major Assignment (2500 words) (60%), Participation in online tutorials (10%)
