Synopsis: This Unit outlines the evaluation and management of wounds in small animals. It will explore the importance of the association with wound classification and the proper management of open wounds. Consideration will also be given to the identification of factors that may influence the healing of a wound and the management of problem wounds. Specific wounds such as injuries to the pads, animal bite wounds, gunshots wounds and burns will be covered.
Objectives: At the completion of this unit students will be able to: 1. Classify wounds in relation to treatment plans for managing the injured animal; 2. Demonstrate methods of wound closure for treating open wounds; 3. Describe factors that influence the healing of small animal wounds; 4. diagnosis methods and management options for problem wounds
Assessment: Minor Assignment (40%), Major Assignment (1500 words) (60%)
