Parkville Second semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: Patient compliance. Patient education. Social pharmacy. Illness behaviour. The placebo.
Objectives: Students will develop an understanding of : illness behaviour, normal and abnormal; the placebo effect and how it relates to pharmacy practice; the concepts of self role and sick role; the problems of medication non-compliance and means of overcoming them
Assessment: Written examination:75% (3 hours) to assess lecture content, practical examination: 25% to assess practical experience.
Contact Hours: The unit will have 18 lectures over 12 weeks; 3 x 1hr whole group tutorials; 8 x 3hr practical sessions (including 1x 3hr assessment)
