Caulfield Second semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: The role of illustrators in cooperation with designers, art directors, editors and production staff. Their place in the commercial environment with particular emphasis on their financial and legal obligations. Self-promotion options and the development of a viable illustration practice.
Objectives: On successful completion of this unit, students will: 1.prepare illustrations for printing with a full understanding of the technical requirements; 2.work creatively as an illustrator in a role of productive co-operation with designers, editors and art directors; 3.work as an illustrator with an understanding of basic business practices, including costing, the writing of contracts, copyright and legal obligations; 4.appropriately and successfully promote their practice as professional illustrators.
Assessment: Assigned projects: 70% + Promotion project: 30%
Contact Hours: 4 studio hours and 8 independent study hours per week
Prerequisites: VCO2202 or VCO3204
