Clayton First semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: Fundamental structures, functions, properties and performance of telecommunication networks; voice and data communications and their network performance requirements; coding, multiplexing, modulation, analog and digital transmission, transmission media; concepts of space and time division switching, circuit and packet switching, common channel signalling; network performance, Erlang loss formula; OSI reference model, modems; data link and network layer protocols; emerging networks and services.
Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 70% + Laboratory and assignment work: 30%
Contact Hours: 26 lectures, 24 hours of laboratory/practice classes
