Cultural strategy 2 ( 6 points, SCA Band 1, 0.125 EFTSL)

Synopsis: This unit builds on the knowledge and expertise gained in Cultural Strategy 1. It is an interdisciplinary arts laboratory in which the students will further develop and refine their written and verbal communication skills. The lecture program deals with issues about writing for the creative arts whether it be as critical commentary or creative interaction and deals with questions of aesthetics, form, rhetoric, and mode of presentation. It is a flexible course that responds to students' studio practice while at the same time encouraging them to explore and experiment with a range of modes of communication such as cultural commentary, criticism, and writing for interactive and new media.

Objectives: The student will be able to: 1. demonstrate a broad knowledge and understanding of theories of culture; 2. employ theoretical frameworks in the analysis of specific case studies; 3. develop presentational and critical skills in the examination of their own practice, 4. formulate critical discourse informed by, and responsive to cultural theory

Assessment: Report (1000 words): 25% + Class presentation and written report (equivalent to 1000 words): 25% + Project (equivalent to 2500 words): 50%

Contact Hours: 12 hours per week, includine One 1 hour lecture and 2 hour seminar and 9 independent study hours.
