Synopsis: This unit builds on the knowledge gained in TAD1301 and explores critical issues in the creative arts. The focus of the unit is to consider specific themes and topics in relation to the Australian circumstances. This includes consideration of the margin and the centre, regional issues and the effects of globalisation. Students will examine and critically analyse topical theoretical issues affecting the creative arts industry in Australia
Objectives: On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to: 1. demonstrate a broad knowledge and understanding of the creative arts within Australia; 2. identify key issues and organisations that influence and affect the creative arts industry; 3. demonstrate an appreciation of the social, historical and cultural forces that inform the practice of the arts; 4. critically analyse and evaluate discourse in the field.
Assessment: Report on a current artistic event, exhibition or display (750 words): 20% + Class presentation and written report (1250 words): 30% + Essay (2500 words): 50%
Contact Hours: 12 hours per week, including One 1 hour lecture and 2 tutorial hours and 9 independent study hours.
Prerequisites: Must have passed 48 credit points at level 1
