Twentieth-Century Spanish American Literature ( 12 points, SCA Band 1, 0.250 EFTSL)

Synopsis: This unit studies the most important literary developments that took place in Spanish America in the Twentieth Century. Literary texts will be situated in their socio-historical and political contexts in a way that students will be able to anyalyse and understand the direct relationship. Works of literature included are: modernist poetry, the "novelas de la tierra", magic-realist novels and anthology of short stories and post-boom narrative. This course should provide broad knowledge of the main ideas and achievements of the most important Spanish American writers, philosophers and politicians. This unit is 100% taught and assessed in Spanish.

Assessment: Comprehensive bibliography (100 words): 10% + 3 tests (1000 words each): 30% + Research project (2000 words Spanish): 20% + Final essay (3500 words in Spanish): 40%
