Synopsis: This unit explores the different forms of literary/artistic forms that took hold in Spain during the nineteenth century. Starting with a study of romantic poetry and drama, the emphasis will be on the novels written after 1868, in an attempt to establish the relationship between "La Gloriosa" (the revolution of 1868), the society it sought to establish and the new forms novel-writing took in the late 1800s.

Assessment: Tests (2 x 45 minutes): 35% + Reading controls (1000 words): 20% + Final essay (2000 words): 45%
