Synopsis: This subject aims to give students an outline of the basic business skills which are needed to maintain a career in the multimedia industry and to manage and run a multimedia business. It provides students with a broad overview of the nature of the multimedia industry and the sort of companies, which occupy it.

Objectives: On completion of this unit, students will: 1 the nature of the multimedia industry, the sorts of businesses of which it is comprised, and the employment opportunities it offers; 2 the issues which need to be addressed in establishing and managing a successful multimedia development company; 3 basic business techniques used in the assessment of the commercial viability of development proposals; have an understanding of: 4 the business environment within which multimedia companies operate; 5 how to go about setting up and running a small multimedia development company; 6 how to go about determining the commercial viability of a multimedia development project; have the skills to: 7 identify and perform the basic business tasks needed to establish a small business; 8 carry out a feasibility analysis of a multimedia development proposal; have developed attitudes which allow them to: 9 participate effectively in the establishment and day-to-day operation of a small multimedia development company; 10 take a realistic commercial approach to the assessment of the viability of a multimedia development proposals.

Assessment: Examination: 60% + Assignments: 40%
