Synopsis: Research methods and their application. Industrial design (research) issues: users, clients, technology, production and environmental issues. Project management issues: contract law and contract administration, authority approvals, cost planning, staff resource allocation, costing and budget planning. Computer-based project schedules and resource allocation, time schedules and critical path networks for sub-projects with multi-activities.

Objectives: On successful completion of this unit, students will: 1.be capable of researching criteria relating to industrial design and product development; 2.be able to identify key issues which influence the outcome of such projects; 3.be capable of planning and undertaking design research in product development; 4.be able to effectively communicate design research critera which meets management objectives ; 5.undertake computer-based planning and scheduling for the implementation of the design project.
