Introduction to Philosophy A ( 6 points, SCA Band 1, 0.125 EFTSL)

Synopsis: PHL1010 consists of a set of optional components, from which students must choose two. The components offered in any year will be drawn from the following list: (i) 'Life, Death and Morality'; (ii) 'God, Freedom and Evil'; (iii) 'Great Thinkers: Bold Ideas'; (iv) 'Crime and Punishment'; and (v) 'Reason and Argument'. Objectives: To introduce students to methods of philosophical argument and analysis through the discussion of a range of moral and metaphysical problems of contemporary relevance.

Assessment: Three short exercises (1250 words): 30% + Essay (1250 words): 30% + Examination: 40%

Contact Hours: 3 hours (2 x 1 hour lectures and 1 x 1 hour tutorial) per week
