Synopsis: An original research project carried out under supervision. Students submit their research proposals to the head of department at or near the time of enrolment.

Objectives: Students will develop varied research skills, the capacity to conceptualise parameters of a topic, and to articulate them in a coherent written argument.

Assessment: Critical essay 9000 words Additional comment: Students wishing to further their studies at PhD level should aim for an outcome of 12,000 words.
