Clayton Second semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: The body environment and biocompatibility. Biocompatible materials. Properties of bone. Soft tissue replacement and implants. Materials selection, design, performance and degradation. Tissue-polymer interactions. Materials connected to the body - artificial hearts, mechanical circulatory assist devices, heart-lung machines, artificial kidneys etc. The monitoring of biomaterials in vivo.
