Clayton First semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: The cultural and environmental context in which mental health services are developed and delivered. Topics include cultural identities of clinician and client (consumer) in the diagnostic process; historical perspectives on diagnosis, treatment and service delivery; the effects of trauma on mental health; the so-called 'culture-bound syndromes'; mental health legislation and current trends in service delivery; the challenge of prevention; and ethics in practice. This unit is not taking on new students.
Assessment: Attendance: 20% + Case presentations: 60% + Short exam: 20%
