Advanced business programming using visual basic .net ( 6 points, SCA Band 2, 0.125 EFTSL)

Synopsis: Object Oriented concepts and design techniques will be discussed in context of Visual Basic .Net. Advanced syntax, objects, and file manipulation within Visual Basic .Net will be introduced. The role of databases in business applications will be reintroduced, then will be discussed and worked with in the .Net context. Further features of the .Net framework and their relationship to business applications will be investigated, including ASP .Net, Web Forms and Services, and XML.

Assessment: Three assignments (40%) Examination (60%)

Contact Hours: 12 hours per week for 13 weeks. Students will attend 2 hours of lectures and one 2 hour tutorial/laboratory session per week. Students are expected to spend 8 hours per week on individual study and assignment work, including library and computing laboratory work beyond these normal class hours.
