Synopsis: This unit will address the management concepts fundamental to the success of Information Technology in business. Main topics include Information technology management concepts and challenges; Information Technology trends and issues; IT in business strategy and the value of IT; IT Management processes and techniques; Outsourcing and Insourcing of IT; IT risk and failure.

Assessment: Assessment Assignments: 40%. Two assignments of equal value encompassing testing of theoretical concepts, but primarily application of these concepts to actual case study analysis and other contemporary business scenarios. Examination: 60% (3 hour exam) . This will encompass primarily demonstration of theoretical understanding, as well as its application to case study

Contact Hours: The student workload requirement is 12 hours per week for 13 weeks. Students will attend 2 hours of lectures and one 2 hour tutorial/laboratory session per week. Students are expected to spend 8 hours per week on individual study and assignment work, including library, general research and computing laboratory work beyond these normal class hours.
