Synopsis: Designed to develop skills for effective functioning in a career in the employee relations/human resource management field. Theory and practice of (1) negotiation; and (2) advocacy - the preparation and presentation of cases before industrial and administrative tribunals. Analysis of contemporary issues in the public policy environment relevant to this area of management, e.g. management strategic choice, the status of unions, management prerogatives.
Assessment: Negotiation practice case study: 35% + Tutorial paper: 15% + Examination (2 hours): 50%
Contact Hours: One 2-hour lecture per week and one 1-hour tutorial per week
