Synopsis: Experimental mechanics: particle dynamics, experimentation, modelling. Kinematics: position, velocity and acceleration; analysis and application to engineering situations; translational and rotational motion of free and constrained forces, their origin and significance; energy dissipation in mechanical systems; mass moment of inertia; linear and angular momentum. Analysis and synthesis of planar mechanisms. Fundamentals of mechanical vibrations.
Assessment: Examinations (2 hours): 80% + Problem solving classes: 10% + Laboratory work: 10%
Contact Hours: 22 lecture hours, 12 practice class hours and 12 laboratory hours
Prerequisites: ENG1401 and ENG1603 and ENG1802
