Clayton Second semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: Review of airframe terminology and basic structural elements Loading on wings and fuselage. Structural idealisation. Principles of stressed skin construction. Torsion of single and multi-cell thin-walled sections. Bending and shear flow in open and closed thin-walled beams. Stress analysis of aircraft components. Torsional buckling of aircraft components. Analysis of composite airframe structures: load distribution, stacking sequence, localised effects. Design of composite airframes.
Assessment: Examination (2 hours ): 80% + Assignments and laboratory work: 20%
