Clayton First semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: Equilibrium conditions; introduction to structural elements such as trusses and frames; definitions of stress and strain; introduction to methods used to analyse structural members under tension, bending, torsion, shear and buckling; an introduction to combined stresses which includes the Mohr stress circle and static theories of failure; and an introduction to fatigue, stress concentration, the S-N curve and combined loads.
Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 80% + Assignments and laboratory reports: 20%
Contact Hours: 22 lecture hours and 22 practice classes/laboratory hours
