Synopsis: This subject comprises two parts. Part I examines legal practice profitability and strategy implementation. Park II looks at three ways to improve legal practice management. In outline, the two Parts of the subject will cover the following matters: Part I: understanding the dynamics of law firm profitability; improving law firm strategy execution. Part II: linking compensation and competencies to strategy; harnessing technology to improve decision making; and effective accountability frameworks.

Objectives: At the successful completion of this subject the student should have acquired or developed: (1) an understanding of the dynamics of law firm profitability; (2) new or better skills to improve strategy execution efforts; (3) a clear appreciation of how to link competencies and compensation to strategy; (4) the capacity to harness technology to improve decision making; (5) greater familiarity with effective leadership systems.

Assessment: The proposed assessment regime consists of the following components and weightings Class participation 10% Class preparation 10% Assignment - 3000 words 30% Examination 50%
