Synopsis: Discussion of important current international human rights issues such as cultural relativism, appropriate domestic and international responses to human rights violations, theoretical perspectives on human rights, development of international human rights jurisprudence, human rights and corporations, economic, social and cultural rights, world regulatory structures and human rights.
Objectives: Human rights is one of the most dynamic areas of the law. There is an increasing need today for human rights specialists at both the international and domestic level. Students completing this subject should be able to identify and understand current international human rights structures, procedures, and problems, as well as their relevance in international affairs, and for Australian law and practice.
Assessment: Research essay (7500 words): 100%
