Synopsis: Students will gain an understanding of the contemporary Japanese political economy, its fundamental characteristics and major issues including contending perspectives on the Japanese 'economic miracle', and industrial policy.
Assessment: Written (4500 words): 50% + Seminar participation (1500 words): 10% + Test (3 hours): 40%
Contact Hours: 2 hours (1 x 2 hour seminar) per week
Prerequisites: A Japanese studies sequence or economics or management or prior permission of the instructor.
