Synopsis: Provides students with the opportunity to improve their skills in reading and writing Japanese, including development of their knowledge of kanji and understanding of written language styles and vocabulary. A range of texts, such as simple newspaper articles, instructions, advertisements, letters and short fiction will be utilised, organised around themes relating to Japanese culture and society.
Assessment: Mid-semester examination (50 minutes): 15% + End-of-semester examination (2 hours): 45% + Class performance, including regular quizzes 20% + Written assignments (equivalent to 1500 words): 20%
Contact Hours: 4 hours per week
Corequisites: JPL2210 or equivalent
