Clayton Second semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: An advanced introduction to sociolinguistics in its application to the study of Japanese and English usage in contact situations. Special emphasis is placed on intercultural communication, cross-cultural discourse patterns and speech acts, and Japanese language contact.
Assessment: Oral presentation (2,500 words): 20% + Review (2,500 words): 30% + Essay (4,000 words): 50%
Contact Hours: 3 hours (2 x 1 hour seminars and 1 x 1 hour tutorial) per week
