Malaysia Second semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: This unit introduces students to contemporary research and technical topics in IT and is designed to look into special topics in the e-commerce, business systems, computer science and other IT related research areas. The topics will be selected by lecturer(s)and may include alogrithms, e-commerce modelling, A.I. techniques, simulation, mobile and pervasive computing, data mining and knowledge management, operating system kernel design, information visualisation, networking, advanced database topics.
Assessment: Class discussion and participation: 30% + One major individual presentation of a selected topic with a written report - Presentation: 20% and Written report (4000 - 5000 words): 50%
Contact Hours: 2 hours of lecture and discussion, 1 hour of tutorial, and 2 hours of optional unsupervised lab work per week
Prerequisites: Admission into Masters Course. A sound understanding of IT principles and related issues.
