Synopsis: This unit provides opportunities for language learning through immersion in a content based unit dealing with the world of Indonesian journalism. One two hour lecture/workshop and one two hour reading and writing workshop integrate three main themes: language, which deals with interpreting and translation skills in a journalistic context; production, which deals with the practical experience of producing a one hour radio program and a student magazine in the Indonesian language; theory, which deals with the historical and political context that has accompanied the development of journalism in Indonesia.
Assessment: Spoken language project (15 minutes): 30% + News analysis and translation (1500 words): 30% + Feature article (1000 words): 20% + Examination (2 hour): 20%
Contact Hours: 4 hours (1 hour lecture, 1 hour tutorial, 2 hour practical) per week
Prerequisites: INM3315 or equivalent
