Synopsis: The primary focus is on the communication skills required for use in an Indonesian or Australian setting. Tutorials cover a broad introduction to the culture and geography of Indonesia as well as an introduction to strategies and skills required in learning a language. Practicals deal with the introduction and application of basic communication tasks with an emphasis on numeracy skills and immediate needs.
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit students will be able to: 1. Understand grammatical issues in Indonesian language. 2. Be aware of cultural background in the usage of Indonesian language. 3. Practice communication skills in basic tasks. 4. Develop proficiency in using more sophisticated sentence patterns.
Assessment: Oral presentation: 10 minutes 25% + Cultural journal (1000 words): 15% + Short tasks (500 words): 10% + Written examination: 2 hours 30% + Spoken exam: 20 minutes 20%
Contact Hours: 4 hours (2 x lectures and 2 x tutorials) per week
