Clayton Second semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: Topics covered include evaluation of system performance. Measurement systems and devices. Motion, force, pressure, fluid flow and temperature sensors. Motion transducers, LVDT, strain gauges, thermocouples, ultrasonic and radiation sensors. Interface devices. Introduction to control systems. Process dynamics and control. Transducers and actuators. Physical and mathematical modelling of engineering systems. Block diagrams and transfer functions. Stability of control systems. Introduction to systems engineering, methodological frameworks and life-cycle models.
Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 70% + Assignments: 30%
