Clayton First semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: Topics covered will include chemical and crystal structure of metals and polymers. Common metal alloys. Polymer structure - property relationships covering tensile behaviour, creep and fracture. Fibre reinforced composites and adhesives. Factors influencing failure and methods of strengthening materials. Materials selection.
Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 70% + Assignments, practicals and test: 10% each
Contact Hours: 22 lecture hours and 22 laboratory hours
